For those who wish for brighter, more aesthetic smiles, our dentist may recommend veneers. These tooth-colored shells are made to cover the front of teeth that have stains, chips or other minor cosmetic flaws.
If you choose veneers for your smile, Dr. Susan Chmiel will first clean the teeth receiving veneers and select the correct shade for your restorations. Local anesthesia is usually not needed for veneer placement. However, it can be used if needed. The fronts of the teeth receiving veneers will be shaped to allow room for the veneers. Impressions are taken of the teeth so that your custom-made veneers can be made.
When the veneers are ready, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned, and the veneers will be etched to allow for an ideal bonding process. The veneers are then cemented in place and allowed to cure. The fit and color of your new veneers will be checked. Any excess material will be removed and any other adjustments will be made by our dentist before your veneers are polished until they shine.
Veneers can last from 10 to 20 years before they need to be replaced depending on how well they are cared for. To care for your veneers, be sure to practice proper dental hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day and visit Drs. Susan Chmiel & Rachel Bohn at least every six months for routine dental appointments.
